The Revelations Model: Our Approach to Addiction Treatment

Recovery from addiction involves more than stopping alcohol or drug use. It’s also about understanding the patterns that contribute to substance use, building healthier relationships, and developing the skills needed to move forward. Effective treatment should consider your personal experiences, challenges, and goals rather than focusing on substance use alone.

At Revelations Recovery Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, we believe addiction treatment should combine clinical expertise with compassion, human connection, and practical support. Our philosophy recognizes that each person’s experience with addiction is different and that treatment should reflect those differences. You can learn more about Revelations Recovery Center and our commitment to individualized, compassionate care.

The Revelations Model is a six-stage framework that guides our approach to substance use disorder treatment. It brings together evidence-informed therapies, recovery principles, and personal growth to help you work toward a healthier, more stable life.

What "Evidence-Informed" Actually Means

You may encounter the terms evidence-based and evidence-informed when researching addiction treatment. Both refer to approaches grounded in clinical research and professional knowledge.

Evidence-based therapies have been studied and shown to help treat specific conditions. Evidence-informed care uses that research alongside clinical experience and your individual circumstances to guide treatment decisions.

At Revelations Recovery Center, we incorporate established therapeutic approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and individual therapy.

CBT helps you understand how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence substance use. It focuses on identifying harmful patterns and developing healthier responses to triggers and difficult situations.

DBT emphasizes emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and communication skills. These strategies can be especially helpful when you’ve relied on substances to manage overwhelming emotions.

Through individual therapy, you can explore your experiences and challenges in a private setting while working toward personal recovery goals.

Our approach recognizes that clinical treatment is important, but recovery also involves the relationships, habits, and decisions that shape everyday life.

The Six Stages of the Revelations Model

The Revelations Model provides a framework for understanding addiction and approaching recovery as a process of personal change.

Its six stages are Understand, Connect, Recover, Rebuild, Discover, and Live. Each addresses a different part of recovery, from recognizing harmful patterns to developing a meaningful life beyond substance use.

These stages aren’t necessarily completed in a strict order. You may revisit different areas as your needs, circumstances, and goals change.

1. Understand

Understanding addiction is an important part of beginning recovery.

Substance use disorder is a medical condition, not a failure of character or willpower. Recognizing this can help you approach treatment with greater awareness and less shame.

During this stage, you’ll explore the experiences, behaviors, and circumstances that have contributed to your substance use. This may include identifying triggers, recognizing harmful habits, and understanding how alcohol or drugs have affected your life.

The purpose isn’t to assign blame. It’s to develop a clearer picture of your needs and identify areas where treatment may help.

2. Connect

Addiction can strain relationships and contribute to isolation. You may have withdrawn from friends or family, lost trust in others, or become disconnected from the activities and people that once mattered to you.

The Connect stage emphasizes rebuilding healthy relationships and developing a sense of support.

Connection may involve strengthening communication, learning to ask for help, or identifying people who encourage your recovery. It also includes building a trusting relationship with your treatment team.

Recovery doesn’t require you to face every challenge alone. Meaningful connections can provide encouragement, accountability, and a sense of belonging.

3. Recover

The Recover stage focuses on developing and practicing the skills that support changes in substance use behaviors.

Through evidence-informed therapies such as CBT and DBT, you’ll work on recognizing triggers, managing cravings, and responding to difficult emotions without relying on alcohol or drugs.

Recovery also involves developing healthier routines, understanding relapse risks, and learning how to handle challenges as they arise.

Recovery also involves developing healthier routines, understanding relapse risks, and learning how to handle challenges as they arise.

Progress may look different from one person to another. Your treatment plan should reflect your individual needs and allow room for adjustments as you work toward your goals.

4. Rebuild

Substance use can affect many areas of your life, including relationships, employment, finances, physical health, and daily responsibilities.

The Rebuild stage focuses on making practical changes that support greater stability.

You may work on improving communication, creating healthier routines, managing responsibilities, or repairing relationships where appropriate.

Rebuilding doesn’t mean everything has to return to the way it was before addiction. Sometimes, it means making different choices and establishing healthier expectations for yourself and others.

These changes take time, but they can become an important part of your ongoing recovery.

5. Discover

Recovery can create opportunities to reconsider what matters most to you.

When substance use has occupied a significant part of your life, it may be difficult to recognize your interests, strengths, or goals outside addiction.

The Discover stage encourages you to explore your identity, values, and sense of purpose.

This might involve reconnecting with old interests, exploring new activities, strengthening relationships, or considering personal and spiritual growth.

There isn’t one definition of a meaningful life. What matters is discovering what gives your life direction and reflects your values.

6. Live

Recovery continues beyond formal treatment. The Live stage focuses on applying what you’ve learned to everyday life while maintaining appropriate support.

This may include using coping skills during stressful situations, maintaining healthy relationships, recognizing warning signs, and continuing to work toward personal goals.

It also involves planning for the challenges that may arise after a more intensive treatment program ends.

Recovery isn’t a destination you reach on a particular date. It’s an ongoing process of learning, adapting, and making choices that support your well-being.

How Clinical Care and Recovery Principles Work Together

Clinical therapy can help you understand addiction and develop strategies for changing harmful behaviors. Recovery principles provide a broader foundation for applying those skills in daily life.

At Revelations Recovery Center, we believe these elements can work together.

  • CBT and DBT offer practical methods for recognizing triggers, managing emotions, and responding to challenges.
  • Individual therapy provides opportunities to explore personal concerns and develop treatment goals.
  • Recovery principles emphasize qualities such as accountability, self-awareness, healthy relationships, and personal responsibility.

For example, therapy may help you recognize how stress contributes to cravings. Recovery-focused work can help you establish routines and relationships that make it easier to use those coping skills outside treatment.

Our goal is to provide care that addresses substance use while respecting the experiences, needs, and values of the person seeking treatment.

What the Revelations Model Looks Like in Practice

The Revelations Model provides the foundation for our three outpatient treatment programs in West Palm Beach.

  1. Our partial hospitalization program, or PHP, offers the highest level of outpatient care, generally involving several hours of structured treatment per day, five days per week.
  2. Our intensive outpatient program, or IOP, provides an intermediate level of support with fewer treatment hours.
  3. Our standard outpatient program, or OP, offers the greatest flexibility for people who need less intensive care.

These programs form a continuum that allows treatment intensity to change as your needs evolve.

You may begin with PHP and transition into IOP or OP as you make progress. If you need additional support, moving to a more intensive level of care may be appropriate.

A qualified clinical assessment helps determine where you should begin. The Revelations Model provides a consistent philosophy across these programs while allowing your treatment plan to reflect your individual needs.

A Note on Spirituality and Recovery

For some people, recovery includes exploring spirituality, personal beliefs, or a renewed sense of purpose. For others, meaning comes from relationships, personal values, community involvement, or activities that bring fulfillment.

The Revelations Model makes room for these different perspectives without requiring a particular religious identity or spiritual belief.

You don’t need to share anyone else’s beliefs to participate in addiction treatment.

What matters is having the freedom to explore the values, relationships, and experiences that are meaningful to you.
